Ranga Pae (Encircling the Earth in Maori) was formed in 1995 by the husband and wife team of Kimo and Jody Huybrechts. Residing on the island of Maui, Hawaii, Kimo & Jody perform regularly at some of Mauis finest venues. In 1999 they were commissioned by the Tau Dance Theater for the arrangement of Sakura on koto and sitar with performances at the Leeward Community College Theater on Oahu, and Maui's Castle Theater. From 2001 through 2008 they appeared nightly at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua's award-winning signature restaurant The Banyan Tree. In addition to being accomplished musicians trained in western and eastern music, Kimo & Jody each have over 30 years of musical experience and hold degrees in cultural anthropology / ethnomusicology. They lecture on music appreciation, Hawaiian archaeology, cultural anthropology, ethnomusicology and do workshops with their indigenous instruments. Their mission is to promote appreciation of cultural music through performing, teaching, composing, film and recording projects. Ranga Pae has released three albums: Waihua, Full Circle, and Like Rain which are available to purchase or download online. Their latest CD "Waihua" was nominated "INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR" for the prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano Award in 2010. You can catch Ranga Pae performing weekly on Maui at the beautiful award-winning restaurant Merriman's Kapalua. |
