Biography

Take an eclectic musical journey around the world with Kimo & Jody of the world fusion group Ranga Pae: be refreshed by the Japanese koto with its reminiscent sound of waterfalls and the haunting melodies of bamboo flutes from Hawaii and Indonesia, the exotic flavor of India with the sitar and the heartbeat of Bali through the bamboo tingklik. There's even something familiar waiting in the background of this musical oasis as you're likely to catch a re-imagined classic rock tune, a hip hop hit with an ethnic twist, a jazz standard, a world traditional piece, or an original Ranga Pae composition.

Ranga Pae (Encircling the Earth in Maori) was formed in 1995 by the husband and wife team of Kimo and Jody Huybrechts. Residing on the island of Maui, Hawaii, Kimo & Jody perform regularly at some of Maui’s finest venues, and have had the honor of performing before many well known artists including Carlos Santana, Lionel Richie, Prince, Philip Bailey, George Benson, Stephen Stills, and Ben Harper.  Since 2001 they have appeared nightly at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua's award-winning signature restaurant The Banyan Tree. Ranga Pae has released two CD's "Like Rain" and "Full Circle" which are available online. They are working on their third CD which is expected to be released in 2008.

In addition to being accomplished musicians trained in western and eastern music, Kimo & Jody both hold degrees in cultural anthropology with an emphasis in ethnomusicology. They also lecture on music appreciation, Hawaiian archaeology, cultural anthropology, ethnomusicology and do workshops  with their indigenous instruments. Their mission is to promote appreciation of cultural musical art forms through performing, teaching, compositions and recording projects.

One of Hawaii's busiest duos, Ranga Pae has averaged over 261 perfomances per year since 2001.

Currently you can catch Ranga Pae performing Wednesday and Thursday evenings at The Banyan Tree restaurant, Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii.
